Julie Hamon-Ottema began her career in public practice in 1979. Prior to establishing her own practice in May 2007, Julie was co-owner of a West Leederville accounting firm.

Julie’s new practice, JHOCPA is located in Victoria Park/Burswood, concentrates on maintaining the highest possible standards in accounting and related services.  Julie’s professional service philosophy is part of who she is and was how she conducted business in all her previous roles. Her philosophy is now reflected in her team’s meticulous approach to the preparation of all accounting and related services for their clients.

A small but dedicated professional team works alongside Julie to uphold her valued tradition of attention to detail along with exceptional and ethical client service as well as her commitment to providing excellence in the accounting profession.

Julie has 31 years’ experience in public practice. She provides professional advice to a diverse range of clients on administrative, taxation and corporate law requirements. She is also well versed in many computerised accounting programs and has trained staff and clients in IT business applications.

Julie is a director of the charitable organisation PDLE Inc trading as ATUL (Aid to Useful Living) and PD Leading Enterprises, a member of the board of Murdoch College Inc on the Murdoch University Campus and a former board member and treasurer for the YMCA Inc in Perth where she continues to serve on its Council of Governors.

 

 
   
     
   

Staff Selection

All employees of JHOCPA undergo accredited psychological profiling by Des Ranger of Performance Coaching Pty Ltd who utilises the highly-regarded Wimbush Assessments tools. Profiling ensures the right ‘fit' not only for the requirements of the company and the harmony of the team, but also for the needs of the practice's clients.


     
                 
       

Julie Rue
Secretary to Principal

Julie joined the practice in July 2009 having migrated from the UK earlier that year.  Julie has fitted into the team well and is responsible for client related services and areas of administration of the practice.  A sound working relationship has developed between the two Julies and Julie Rue quickly became a key link in the professional team supporting Julie Hamon-Ottema and the professional staff in their client related services.

Julie Rue is the primary telephone contact for client liaison and queries; Julie deals with all tax payments and Australian Taxation Office negotiations on behalf of the practice.  With Julie’s wide range of experience in professional offices in the UK along with her attention to detail Julie has become a valuable member of the team ensuring all the practice’s clients receive exceptional and personal service.

     
         
     
       

Jeslie Amory
Accountant
(B Com)

Jeslie completed her Commerce degree in December 2007 and moved to the position of a full time Accountant in January 2008 six months after she first joined JHOCPA as a Secretary Data Entry Operator.

In the period prior to her appointment with JHOCPA in June 2007, Jeslie’s experience included two years as a legal secretary with law firm dealing mostly in Family Law, one year as a bookkeeper and tax graduate with a small firm and a private business.  Jeslie also completed the H&R Block Income Tax Preparation course while studying for her degree and working part-time to round out her tax experience.

Jeslie has a Bachelor of Commerce, Professional Accounting with a minor in Business Law from Murdoch University. Jeslie also completed an Advanced Diploma of Accounting at TAFE prior to commencement of her degree.

Jeslie underwent intensive training in preparation for completing her studies in 2007 and has continued her professional development while working in our busy practice.  Jeslie commenced her CPA program in 2009 and will continue her training and development within the practice over the next few years while completing her professional qualifications under the CPA program with Julie Hamon-Ottema as her mentor.

Jeslie assists Julie Hamon-Ottema with all client accounting and taxation requirements; she also supports the other members of the team in all client services.  Jeslie’s attention to detail and professional attitude to client service delivery makes her a valuable asset to JHOCPA.

     
         
     
       

Lucienne Nowland
Accountant
(B Com)

Lucienne has five years experience in public practice. Lucienne began her career in junior roles in accounting offices and then following in a family tradition decided to become a nurse. Interestingly, after 10 years, Lucienne chose to move back into accounting and studied for her degree at the University of Queensland while raising a young family.

After completing her Bachelor of Commerce, Lucienne practiced as an accountant in a Queensland firm until being approached by JHO to work remotely for the company in October 2007. Lucienne still lives in Queensland with her family but is one of the firm’s three accountants.

Distance has posed no problems; Lucienne receives her jobs via a secure log-in to JHO’s work-in-progress system on the Perth remote server. No original documents leave the Perth office (i.e. no original client documents are sent or stored off-site) copies are scanned or securely Air Expressed overnight from JHO’s door to the door of Lucienne’s home office in Queensland. Lucienne utilises all JHO office software via the practice’s remote server through the ADSL secure connection.  Lucienne also visits Perth annually in June to participate in the practice annual training days that are undertaken to go through procedures and policies of the firm and changes in tax and related legislation in the lead up to a new financial year.

Lucienne works three days each week and assists Julie Hamon-Ottema and the team with all client accounting and taxation requirements for all entity types including companies and trusts and partnerships as well as income tax returns for individuals.

Lucienne was a welcome part-time addition to the team at JHOCPA when staff were hard to come by in Perth and her attention to detail, work and service ethic for clients of JHOCPA makes her a valuable member of the team.

     
         
     
       

Wen Ou
Graduate Accountant
(M Pro. Accounting)

Wen completed her Master degree in July 2008 and joined the practice in October 2009 as a graduate accountant.  Wen has quickly picked up all aspects of a busy and growing accounting practice.

Wen commenced her CPA program in 2009 and will continue her training and development within the practice over the next few years while completing her professional qualifications under the CPA program with Julie Hamon-Ottema as her mentor.

Wen assists all team member in general administration and also assists Jeslie, Lucienne and Julie Hamon-Ottema with client accounting and taxation requirements.

In the period prior to Wen’s appointment with JAHOCPA in 2009, Wen’s experience included two years as an executive officer with a large telecommunications company in China.  Wen completed the H&R Block Income Tax Preparation course in 2008 and worked part-time in 2009 to round out her tax experience though the H & R Block graduate program.

Wen is due to take Maternity Leave in August 2010; Wen has decided she will continue to work a few hours each week from home just to keep her hand in and return to work on a part-time basis after completing her maternity leave.
